social politicial essay Maritza E. Benitez F.

Accidental Enjoyment
A current political issue that is going around the United States today is teen pregnancy. How it is dealt with and the damage that it truly cause teens. Parents refuse to give their teens information on what it takes to become a real parent. They tend to try to avoid having sex talks. Adults refuse to acknowledge the fact that teens have sex. Often they know that their teens are sexually active but are afraid to acknowledge that fact. Parents find it easier to tell teen don’t have sex!
Often the more you tell someone not to do something the more they are likely tempted to do so. Maybe in a parent’s point of view parents might think they’re helping their kids but statistic wise The United States has by far the highest rate of teen pregnancy through out the world. For every thousand people eighty-four teen pregnancies occur. Compared to Canada who only has 38 pregnancies for every thousand. The United States has double and compared to countries like Sweden and France we have triple the teen pregnancies then they do.
Although The United States has the highest rate of teen pregnancies, Swedish, Canadian, and British teens are more sexually active then teens in the US. The million dollar question now is how is it that The United Sates Has More Pregnancies yet there are more teens sexually active in Other Countries? How is it that The United States has less teens having sex but has more teen pregnancies? You would think other countries would have more pregnancies since they are more sexually active. The reason is that parents in other countries are introducing sex to their teens, giving them sex education so they can prevent the occurrence of an unwanted or unplanned birth, which is what we In The United Sates lack of.

In Switzerland the teens who get pregnant are required to say who the father is, the fathers are to take responsibilities. As for in The United States it’s easy for the fathers to walk away with out no responsibilities. So they find it easy to have sex and not worry about the consequences.
There needs to take more control in the sex education. Parents think that by handing their teens condoms, and birth control pills it gives them the wrong idea the incorrect message. No parent would like to know that at the ages of 15-19 their teen is all ready having sex. But by handing your son condoms, by giving you daughter birth control you teach them to be safe. Its true it’s not right to have so much teens involved in sexual activities at a young age, but I am a teen I understand how things work. Often we do things regardless if our parents agree with it or not.
How is it that with so much contracepts in the world for teens to use there’s still a ton of teen pregnancies? There are clinics health care and so much more to the advantages of teens, but instead all you hear is the word ABSTINENCE. Some will follow the road of abstinence but nearly half (46%) of people between the ages of 15-19 have at least had sex once. After having sex once most of teens are likely to have sex again and again and get pregnant by the age of 20 if not before.
Now is it better to have your teen come home one day telling you that she/he is having a baby, or would you prefer to hand them a condom give them birth control? What will hurt you the least, knowing that your son/daughter is involved in sexual activity and you helped to prevent a teen pregnancy, or that you knew about the sexual activity and you ignored the issue?
