An issue that has recently got my goat is the round up of wild horses happening in northern Nevada. The round up crew is using cruel ways for the round up of the horses. Their method of choice: chasing them with a helicopter, possibly the worst idea I could ever think of. Not only is it wrong to take them from their natural land, it’s inhumane. I am against this round up; it honestly brings more harm than help.
These poor defenseless horses are being mistreated by the keeper appointed. As of January 30th, 2010, twenty-two wild horses have died since being captured. Officials say three mustangs died at the round up sight at Calico Mountain Complex. They died during the round up process, guarantee it was because of the brutal round up methods. The other nineteen horses are believed to have died at a holding center by various things.
The government’s goal is to relocate about 2,500 wild horses. They insist there aren’t enough resources to support the horses, yet they have been surviving there just fine for years. However farmers are complaining that the horses are eating their livestock’s grass. Personally I feel the horses are more deserving of a graze then an animal that is just going to get slaughtered tomorrow. The governments violates a federal law made to protect wild horses and there nature. The worst part about this is nobody is stopping them or prosecuting them for the crime either.
They are playing God and it boils my blood just thinking about it. It is prod call that they have vets check out all incoming horses. Well one horse in particular has played the harp of my heart. He was an old horse, one who was euthanized simply because he was old. They insisted it was necessary because he was apparently going to die soon anyways. Why not just let him live the rest of his life out, it was his god given right. Lets kill him now, no point in letting this fellow enjoy the last bit of life as he deserves and has fought for.
They are placing these horses where there is no room for them. The holding centers and dangerously overstuffed. Also they are kept outside where they provide no shelter for the harsh weather conditions of winter. Horses are creatures built to run, not live in a total capacity of three feet to move around in. It’s wrong to trap such free spirits. Its also wrong for them to decide what horses will live free in the wild and what horses will live in captivity.
The governments plan is to either euthanize the older horses, or store them in a holding center. The young horses are being sold or adopted. It is wrong to break up families. Horses, believe it or not, are a very family oriented species. If one would compare to the closeness in relationships human to horses, you would find that horses seem to own a deeper connection.
I hope the government comes to their senses and stops. It is wrong to the deepest degrees. The misuse of governmental power should no longer be tolerated. Please, we must all stand together to fight the obstructive problem.
