ADILENE'S AMERICAN DREAM

My American Dream

The American dream can be defined in many ways, there’s many that believe coming to American will get them out of their poverty. It will give them a chance to give their children and family a better life style and future in education. I personally came to the United States with that American dream in mind, following what my parents would say to me. I was innocent if you say that, of what the real world was like besides the one that I living in at that moment; the one in which everything seemed as happiness, joy and freedom, where nothing may ever go wrong. In a way I knew that people came to the U.S. to have better living and more money but I never of what the cost is when one has to go almost an entire week through the desert without food or water; and if you get caught, too bad you’re going back to Mexico with nothing in your hands to give to your love ones. The thousands you paid to "El Coyote” has now been thrown to the trash.
Now that I know what the cost is to have a “better” life I know what my American dream is and what it means to those who lose their families when the “better” life may take away a love ones life. As a child I was ignorant of what everything around me meant and families were separated because of the need of money. I thank God that that wasn’t my personal situation. My parents did bring me here with the same hopes as everybody else’s though: to have a better education, freedom, and a better live. As time goes by I have come to find out that in a way that makes part of my American dream, but yet sometimes I don’t see it that way. Sometimes I see it as a sacrifice, something that will never end, families taken apart,
And sometimes it’s not worth it. Like in the case of Jimmy Baca, whose American dream was simple and in conformity zone where now a days people are not okay with it.
Jimmy Baca was born in the state if New Mexico in a poor family where they lived off of harvesting goods or working for the rich white people. As he grew up he said that his American dream was to have a stable job, a home, a family, and that he would have to depend on anyone. Tome went by and he couldn’t get to his American dream because of drugs, violence ETC. Not until he finally decided to set his head and found a way to get through, even if it was in jail. His American dream is similar to those who don’t quite have a family or simply they’re running away from problems in their native country. Seeking a new life in a different country may be difficult, but “it’s always for the good of the family” many say.
Up to now I have been following my parent’s American dream and maybe it’s because it’s true. The United States is a country where mostly everyone is well accepted. I have learned to value my education and seek a better living for my family right now, myself, and for my future. Times are hard right now and maybe the “better job” isn’t included in the American dream for those who unfortunately lack from education. That’s why I would want all the teens in my generation to help make a change, to improve our education and maybe we won’t have our future kids go trough our American dream. To those up coming generations to value education even more and maybe become the next president of the United States.
The American dream is something that many which they could afford or have, but yet maybe t hey don’t see the cost if it. I admire those who come to the U.S. to give their families a better life. So that their children can continue with their education and be a successful person in life and a model for the little ones. That’s why I thank God and my parents for taking a risk, working hard and giving us this beautiful American dream site that thanks to their hard work and patience we have been able to continue with our education and become kids that maybe in the future others will look up to.
